Our fleet of more than 115 winter vehicles helps keep roads across Scotland moving throughout winter, operating around the clock to treat roads ahead of frost and ice, and helping clear snow.

We’re looking for witty, creative winter-themed names for our gritter fleet across the South East and North West of Scotland.

Winning names from previous competitions that are preparing for our 2026/27 winter service include: SNOW SCOTLAND SNOW PARTY, I’VE GRIT A CRUSH ON YOU, BASIL SALTY, GRITTY GRITTY BANG BANG, SIR ANDY FLURRY and BRINE FREEEEZE.

So whether it’s a clever pun, a snowy joke or a road-inspired name, we’d love to hear your ideas!

Entry is now OPEN until 11:59pm on Friday 11 September.

There is no entry fee, and multiple entries are accepted. A teacher/parent/guardian can enter on behalf of a child under 18.

What happens next?

We’ll contact winning entrants shortly after names have been selected. The winning names will be displayed on gritters based at BEAR Scotland depots, wherever possible close to the winner’s location. You’ll also be able to follow where our winter fleet’s journeys in real-time on the Traffic Scotland Gritter Tracker.

Winning names will be revealed on the BEAR Scotland website and on our social media channels.
