A92 Dundee to Arbroath

The A92 from Dundee (Claypotts) to Arbroath (Elliot) is operated and maintained by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Claymore Roads, working for Dundee City Council and Angus Council.

The 18km stretch of dual carriageway is not part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road network, however the A92 between Dundee and Arbroath is still a key route used by thousands of road users on a daily basis and forms a vital link for the economy, public transport and communities.

To meet the ever changing needs and demands of the road network we use all available resources, skills, knowledge and experience to provide a comprehensive and precise capability, wherever it is needed.

BEAR is responsible for the following on this stretch of the A92:

  • Emergency response
  • Carriageway, cyclepath and footpath inspections
  • Reactive maintenance
  • Routine maintenance
  • Cyclic maintenance
  • Landscape maintenance
  • Winter maintenance
  • Bridge inspections and repairs
  • Coordinating roadworks to minimise delays
  • Traffic management
  • Approving abnormal load movements
  • Liaising with police and statutory undertakers (e.g. electricity, gas, water, telecoms)
  • Providing advice on the requirement for and timing of major maintenance work

Did you know: The A92 has its own winter maintenance fleet dedicated to ensuring it remains safe and reliable during adverse winter conditions. It even has it’s own named gritter – the Polar BEAR Express – which works hard each year to keep the route open and safe.
