Drivers are being warned to expect overnight road closures and parking restrictions in Lauder when the A68 trunk road through the Borders town is resurfaced this autumn.
The works will commence on the night of Monday 12 October and conclude on the night of Friday 30 October.
No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday nights.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public, the A68 through Lauder will be closed between 19:30 and 06:00 each night of these works.
A signed diversion route for trunk road traffic will be in place between Carfraemill Roundabout and Earlston via the A68, A697 to Whiteburn, A6089 to Gordon and the A6015 to Earlston. This diversion will add 12 minutes and 7.9 miles to affected journeys.
A local diversion route will also be in place between Carfraemill Roundabout north of Lauder and the A68 south of Lauder, via the A697 and the B6362. This route is not suitable for HGVs.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “As well as resurfacing the A68 through Lauder, we’ll be replacing ironworks including manhole covers, utility access covers and drainage grates, resulting in a smoother, safer new road surface.
“We understand that road closures are disruptive, therefore we’ve planned these works to take place overnight when traffic flows are lower.
“We’ll also do what we can to mitigate noise disruption to local residents, including completing the noisiest operations by 11pm each night.
“We thank the local community for their patience while these essential improvements are completed.”
The A68 will be resurfaced from south of Market Place junction to north of Lauder village.
The A68 through Lauder will be closed between 19:30 and 06:00 each night of these works, with signed diversion routes in place for trunk road traffic and for local residents.
Traffic will be diverted between Carfraemill Roundabout and Earlston via the A68 and A697 to Whiteburn, the A6089 to Gordon and the A6015 to Earlston. This diversion will add 12 minutes and 7.9 miles to affected journeys.
A local diversion route will be in place for the duration of the project, to allow local residents to bypass the works area if required.
Traffic will be diverted between Carfraemill Roundabout north of Lauder and the A68 south of Lauder, via the A697 and the B6362.
The works will be phased across three separate zones to help limit disruption to both parking and access requirements:
Vehicle access into a zone will be restricted while work is taking place, with only emergency services permitted through the working zone.
Access into Lauder will be maintained for local residents and emergency services.
Pedestrian access across the town will be maintained.
Any updates will be clearly reflected on this web page and on local information signs.
Overnight parking restrictions will be in place between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights that works are taking place, localised during each phase.
No parking will be permitted within the immediate working area while construction activities are taking place.
Outside the live working zone, minor restrictions will remain in place to allow for the completion of road markings.
All restrictions will be clearly highlighted prior to each shift with No Parking cones and information signs.
We kindly ask that these restrictions are adhered to, helping us to complete the works safely, efficiently and with as little disruption to the local community as possible.

A busy programme of maintenance and improvement works is scheduled on South East Scotland’s trunk road network during the third quarter of 2026. Resurfacing schemes are planned on most routes.
