A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotlands NW Operations team as a Trunk Road Incident Liaison Officer.

The North West Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country.  It also includes 1,501 bridges and structures, including the Kessock Bridge which carries the A9 north of Inverness and the A87 Skye Crossing.

The North West Unit covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.

The Incident Liaison Officer, reporting into the Network manager, will be responsible for mobilising an effective response to incidents across our North West Trunk Road network on a 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis.

There is a requirement to work a  4  on 4 off shift pattern to ensure that roads are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Role includes:

  • Assisting in monitoring the impact of incidents on journey times for road users.
  • Assisting with the management of severe weather incidents and winter maintenance.
  • Liaising with the emergency services and trunk road incident support units
  • The deployment of emergency and winter maintenance crews
  • Monitoring road conditions and weather reports
  • Updating databases and associated record keeping.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • General IT skills.
  • Experience in having successfully fulfilled a role of a similar nature such as an Emergency/Roads Authority or Utility Control Room environment would be desirable.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
