BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland.  We manage and maintain over 2,00km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.

BEAR has responsibility for over 750 bridges and structures including the iconic Forth Road Bridge and Queensferry Crossing, as well as other major bridges such as the Kincardine Bridge and Clackmannanshire Bridge.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and career focused candidates to join our team as a Trainee Bridge Inspector on a full time basis. You will be responsible for carrying our inspections of bridges, while under supervision from the Bridge Inspection Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the delivery of BEAR Scotland’s NMC SE Major Bridges Inspection Programmes and help deliver Major Bridges Inspection Teams key performance indicators (KPI’s).
  • Under supervision, undertake a variety of inspections, General Inspections, Principal Inspections, Close & Visual Inspections, Safety Inspections, Access Inspections, Monitoring Inspections, and Special Inspections.
  • Report writing and production of detailed inspection reports and drawings/sketches.
  • Undertake appropriate training (Work at Height, Confined Space, First-Aid Training, Other)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • HNC in Civil Engineering is desirable
  • Previous Experience in Civil Engineering is derirable
  • Ability to work at height, and in confined spaces
  • Formal & on the job training will be provided
  • BEAR Scotland will provide the opportunity to work towards & gain Lantra Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme ‘BICS’ (NHSS31) Inspector qualification and then ‘BICS’ Senior Inspector qualification.
