Opportunities have arisen for Engineers or Technicians in our Operations teams.  The posts are based in our office/depots at Bonnyrigg, Linlithgow, Perth and Inverness.

The successful candidates will report to the Operations Manager for that area.  The role will be varied, covering all aspects of our planned civil engineering works programme as well as assisting with our core activities which include cyclic maintenance, incident response and winter service.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone more office based and technical to learn the full cycle of trunk road management. Combining design, construction, ongoing maintenance and the management of resources whilst at the same time gaining valuable experience over a wide range of activities undertaken.  If you are interested in developing your engineering skills and broadening your knowledge of the works BEAR undertakes then this is the role for you.

Role includes:

  • Ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated Management Systems.
  • Managing the construction of individual schemes on time and within budget by effective supervision and control of costs
  • Work with supervisors on the programming, delivery and measurement of works.
  • Where required assist with the drafting of non-generic risk assessments and method statements.
  • Assist with the development of Construction Phase Plans and Health & Safety Files.
  • Taking part in the delivery of winter maintenance including the role of Winter Service Duty Officer on a rota basis
  • Assist with the delivery of the cyclic maintenance programme of gully cleaning, sign cleaning, grass cutting etc. including programming and recording works using the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System (AMPS).
  • Assist and deputise for the Operations Manager as required in all aspects of operational delivery.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Qualification or working towards a qualification in a relevant civil engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant road maintenance practises and standards.
  • Computer literacy is essential for the role given the reliance on computer based systems used on the Contract
  • Must be able to work to programmes, deadlines and have some commercial awareness.
  • Must have a full approved UK driving licence.
