Do you have a passion for clear and compelling communication with experience of navigating the Scottish media landscape? BEAR Scotland, the operating company for Transport Scotland’s North West trunk road network, is seeking a talented Media & Communications Officer to join our Perth-based team.

In this fast-paced role, you’ll play a key part in driving our communications strategy across the organisation. You’ll help us manage a 24/7 press office and develop engaging content for our digital channels, all in line with our client’s vision for Scotland’s trunk roads.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Craft compelling press releases, media statements and other communications materials.
  • Develop and manage engaging content for social media platforms.
  • Design and create infographics and videos to support our digital strategy.
  • Support the development of communications strategies and plans.
  • Lead the development and implementation of communications campaigns across various channels.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clear and consistent messaging.
  • Analyse and report on the effectiveness of our communications activities.

1.    Job Purpose: To drive the delivery of the Media & Communications strategy across the business.  Working as part of the team which operates a 24/7 Press Office and digital strategy on behalf of our client, one of Scotland’s largest public sector organisations. This role is perfect for someone who wants to make a real impact on the communications strategy of a leading transport and infrastructure organisation.

 

2.    Responsibilities and Activities: 

 

·        Ensure all communications have a stakeholder and customer focus and educate through the use of messaging.

·          Working as a team to deliver a 24/7 Press Office (in partnership with BEAR’s external agency team), including providing responses to media enquiries, copywriting of press releases and newsletters, issuing statements and the development of media strategies for proactive communications.

·          Prepare, design and create content such as infographics and videos for social media channels, in-line with digital strategy.

·          Develop and write content for the BEAR website and other marketing literature.

·          Design and create the quarterly stakeholder newsletters.

·          Lead on the implementation of communications campaigns utilising print, broadcast and online channels, in-line with client/business objectives and key messages.

·          Development of internal communications content including an employee newsletter and videos.

·          Develop and deliver both proactive and reactive communications (in partnership with BEAR’s external agency team).

·          Assist with application of the corporate brand guidelines.

·          Generate reports, evaluation and analysis of communications activities on an ongoing basis.

·          Provide support for other team members particularly the media and communications assistant.

 

3.    Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

·        Communications, media, digital marketing or marketing degree or equivalent.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a keen interest in all forms of media, from traditional journalism and broadcast to social media platforms.

·        Confidence in the use of social media and digital communications and an awareness of data security and the need for careful management of information.

·          Experience of writing compelling content such as news articles, social media posts or marketing collateral.

·          Awareness and understanding of the Scottish media landscape.

·          Ability to develop a news angle and first-rate writing skills.

·          An appreciation of plain English with creative flair.

·          An eye for design and the ability to translate ideas into strong digital content and good visuals (video and infographics)

·          A confident communicator.

·          Mobile with the ability to travel throughout Scotland (as covered by BEAR).

·          Experience of using Adobe Creative Suite packages an advantage.

·          Strong ICT skills – specifically utilising Microsoft Office.

·          Able to work under pressure and under own initiative.

·          Hold a full approved UK Driving Licence.
