An opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotlands North West Operations team as a Installation Operative.

The North West Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country.  It also includes 1,501 bridges and structures, including the Kessock Bridge which carries the A9 north of Inverness and the A87 Skye Crossing.

The North West Unit covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.

The Installation Operative, reporting into the Electrical Manager, should be an experienced roadworker with the necessary skills to carry out various road maintenance operations, training can be provided if necessary. Ideally you should have, as a minimum, an LGV Class 2 Licence (HGV2)

This is a full time role.

Role includes:

  • Work in a team of civils operatives in delivery of a variety of trunk road schemes
  • The erection and removal of temporary signs and barriers (permanent signs and barriers).
  • Hot material patching by hand.
  • Excavation and installation of ducting
  • Installation of street lighting columns together with associated cabling
  • Installation and fixing of temporary/permanent road furniture.
  • Operation of power tools, small plant and machinery.
  • Driving HGV lorries
  • Prepare written returns including fault report details.
  • Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • There is a requirement to undertake training and to achieve competence in aspects of the job.
  • Knowledge of the requirement for Health and Safety rules and procedures.
  • Physically fit for working in sometimes arduous conditions.
  • Experience of using small plant.
  • Holding tickets for plant, traffic management, and Health and Safety an advantage.
  • Full UK driving license preferably at LGV Class C level.
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines and working under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Flexible to working practices.
  • Ability to cope with change.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
