UPDATE ON ROCKSLOPE WORKS ON A830 EAST OF RANOCHAN

May 13, 2025

  • Operatives return to A830 east of Ranochan from Wednesday 28 May

  • One night road closure on Saturday 31 May

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to continue rockslope works alongside the A830 at Loch Eilt, east of Ranochan.

During the course of works in March, closer inspection revealed that more extensive works would be required. Therefore operatives are set to return on Wednesday 28 May to continue the removal of loose rock and debris and installation of anchorages and mesh netting. Works are expected to be completed by Wednesday 25 June.

Two-way traffic lights will be in place between 8am and 6pm for the duration of the works to protect the workforce and road users.

In addition, a full road closure will be in place on the night of Saturday 31 May between 11pm and 6am to allow for the removal of a large boulder on the slope. Hourly amnesties will be provided at midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am and 5am to allow waiting traffic to pass the site safely. Throughout the road closure, emergency services will be accommodated.

BEAR Scotland has been working with all relevant stakeholders to inform them of the project and share information about the traffic management that will be in place.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “These crucial rockslope repairs east of Ranochan will ensure the continued safe operation of the A830.

“The traffic management arrangements are essential to protect both our workforce and the travelling public.

“Our teams are committed to completing these works quickly and with safety as our top priority. We extend our gratitude to the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.

“We encourage all road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date journey information.”
