TRAFFIC TO RETURN TO A83 REST AND BE THANKFUL

November 4, 2025

  • Traffic is set to return to the A83 Rest and Be Thankful from early evening on Tuesday 4 November

Traffic will return to the A83 Rest and Be Thankful early this evening, Tuesday 4 November, following inspections of the hillside and the completion of emergency works.

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, carried out emergency drainage works earlier today.

The short Old Military Road local diversion has been in use as a safety precaution from around 8pm on Monday 3 November after extremely heavy and persistent rainfall caused drainage systems to overflow. The use of this short local diversion ensured that the public were able to travel to and from Argyll safely and with minimal delay.

Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “The use of the Old Military Road again proved to be very successful, keeping Argyll very much open for business through the very wet period.

“60mm of rain was recorded yesterday which caused hillside movement and damage to drainage at the roadside. Our teams worked at pace to fix the drainage issue today, ensuring the A83 trunk road can be fully reopened as soon as possible. We thank road users and the local community for their patience.”
