Please be advised that the surfacing works planned for the A90 southbound north of Dundee have been rescheduled due to operational reasons.

The project was set to begin on Thursday 19 May with the main works taking place over the weekend. However, due to operational reasons, the works have been rescheduled to begin at 7.30pm on Thursday 26 May and are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Monday 30 May, subject to weather conditions.

Traffic management will remain the same as originally programmed, restrictions will be required on the network as follows:

A lane closure on the southbound carriageway will remain in place during the day on Friday.

  • Friday 27 May to Monday 30 May – To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a contraflow system will be in place between Todhills and Inveraldie from 7.30pm on Friday 27 May until 6.30am on Monday 30 May. Single lane traffic will be travelling in both directions on the northbound carriageway while the A90 southbound carriageway is resurfaced. All traffic from Moatmill, Inveraldie and Tealing Junctions wishing to head southbound will be diverted to Gateside Junction and back onto the A90 southbound. Murroes Junction will be closed to all traffic. Traffic wishing to leave Murroes Junction will be diverted to A90 via Duntrune. Traffic wishing to enter Murroes Junction will be diverted via Petterden and then Todhills.

Sheilhill/Kellas Junction will only be open to traffic wishing to head southbound. Traffic wishing to enter Sheilhill/Kellas Junction should do so via Petterden and then Todhills. Traffic wishing to exit Sheilhill/Kellas Junction to A90 northbound should do so via Emmock Roundabout.

A section of the A90 southbound north of Dundee is set to benefit from surfacing improvements with works set to get underway from Thursday 19 May.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A90 between Todhills and Inveraldie, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is scheduled to begin on Thursday 19 May and the main works are expected to take place over the weekend. Operations have been programmed to take place consecutively where possible, with all works expected to be complete by 6am on Monday 23 May, subject to weather conditions.

To allow this project to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restriction will be required on the network as follows:

  • Thursday 19 May – Overnight lane closures will be in place for safety on both the northbound and southbound carriageways to allow for contraflow traffic management to be installed ahead of the project. A lane closure on the southbound carriageway will remain in place during the day on Friday.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “These works will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we’ve planned the improvements to be carried out over the weekend with operations programmed to take place consecutively where possible. Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90.
