Project to begin on Friday 1 July for five days

Motorists using the A82 south of Spean Bridge are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with works to get underway on Friday 1 July.

The scheme, involving the resurfacing of a 550 metre section of the A82 approximately 1.5km south of Spean Bridge, will create a safer and smoother journey for road users.

The project is expected to take place over five days. The improvements are scheduled to take place from 7am to 7pm each day, with all works anticipated to be completed by 7pm on Thursday 7 July, subject to weather conditions. No works will be carried out on the weekend of 2 and 3 July.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a lane closure with a 10mph convoy system and temporary traffic lights will be in place during working hours.  Outwith working hours, a lane closure will be required to protect the newly laid surfacing materials and the A82 will operate using a single lane with traffic signals controlling vehicle movements.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A82 to the south of Spean Bridge will help to address defects and greatly improve the route for road users.

“The traffic management proposed, involving a convoy system and temporary traffic lights, is essential for the safety of roadworkers and road users. Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance and encourage road users to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
