SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A90 SOUTHBOUND BETWEEN SOUTH TARBRAX AND KIRRIEMUIR JUNCTIONS

August 13, 2021

Works start Sunday 22 August for one week

A section of the southbound A90 near Tealing is set to benefit from surfacing improvements starting next weekend.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A90 between South Tarbrax and Kirriemuir Junctions, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

Work is set to begin on Sunday 22 August from 7.30pm and is expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 28 August.

To keep all road users as well as motorists safe, traffic management will be in place throughout the project. This is programmed to take place as follows;

  • Sunday 22 August, 7.30pm  – Monday 23 August, 6.30am:
    • A lane will be closed on both the northbound and southbound A90 to allow teams to safely set up the contraflow system.
  • Monday 23 August, 6.30am – Saturday 28 August, 6.30am
    • A contraflow system will be in place with all motorists diverted onto the northbound A90, with one lane of traffic flowing in each direction.  Traffic wishing to access the northbound A90 from junctions on the southbound A90 will be diverted to Emmock Roundabout and back up the A90.  Traffic wishing to access the southbound A90 from junctions on the northbound A90 will be diverted to the Gateside offslip, and back down the A90.  Additionally, traffic wishing to exit the Petterden Junction will be directed to the A90 via Todhills.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This essential road maintenance project will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the works under a 24-hour contraflow system which will help keep the traffic constantly moving.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
