Works begin Sunday 21 November for three weeks

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 8pm to 6am for the first ten nights, excluding Friday and Saturday nights

A section of the A85 near Ardchyle is to benefit from an improved road surface with work set to get underway from Sunday 21 November.

The improvements will see almost 1.2km of the A85 west of Lix Toll Garage resurfaced, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The works are scheduled to begin on Sunday 21 November and are expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions. To help ensure the project can take place safely, a series of restrictions will be implemented. The schedule of work is as follows:

  • A85 Ardchyle (Phase one) – Sunday 21 November to Thursday 2 December (ten nights, excluding Friday and Saturday nights)

A road closure will be in place between Lochearnhead and Crianlarich during working hours, 8pm to 6am. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A84, A81, A811 and A82. In addition, amnesties will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, 12am, 2am, and 4am to safely escort traffic through the works. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

  • A85 Ardchyle (Phase two) – Monday 6 December to Friday 10 December (five days)

A 10mph convoy system will be in place between 7am and 7pm each day.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

During each phase, traffic management will be removed outwith working hours however, a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Representative for the North West, said: “This surfacing project on the A85 at Ardchyle will address defects and greatly improve the condition of the road for motorists.

“The overnight closures in the first phase of the work are necessary in order to protect road workers and motorists given the narrow road width present. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights.  The second phase of works, on the slightly wider section of road, will be undertaken using a convoy system to minimise speed of traffic safely travelling through the site allowing it to be undertaken during the daytime.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
