BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out the final phase of street lighting refurbishment on the A9 through the village of Golspie from Thursday 6 August. Works will be carried out between the hours of 9am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, and are expected to be completed by Friday 29 January 2027.
This investment will upgrade ageing infrastructure and improve the long-term reliability of the street lighting network. The refurbishment involves replacing the remaining 33 steel street lighting columns along the route, together with the replacement of approximately 1,100m of underground ducting and cabling.
Excavation within the newly resurfaced footway will be minimal as prepatory ducting works were undertaken earlier this year in anticipation of this street lighting replacement project.
Traffic management will be installed in short sections to help minimise disruption.
While much of the work will be carried out on the footway, some sections and pedestrian diversions may require the workforce to utilise part of the carriageway. For the safety of road users and the workforce, traffic management measures, including stop/go signs will be in operation. Temporary traffic lights will only be used when necessary.
Barriers and designated crossing points will be provided where required to guide pedestrians safely around the works.
Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the street lighting works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Replacement of the lighting columns, cabling and ducting will reduce maintenance needs and enable safe operation of the street lighting service for years to come.
