SECOND PHASE OF FOOTWAY IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A82 FORT AUGUSTUS UNDERWAY

May 26, 2022

Works to continue for six weeks

The second phase of a £90,000 project to improve the footway adjacent to the A82 through Fort Augustus is underway.

The current phase of work follows on from those completed earlier this year and involves the realignment of kerbing and the resurfacing of over 500 metres of footway through the village.

Having commenced on Monday 23 May, the works are to take place between 7am and 7pm over six weeks.  Completion is expected by Thursday 30 June. No works are planned to take place at weekends.

To keep roadworkers and road users safe, temporary traffic lights will be in operation continuously for the duration of the project. A temporary footway will also be provided to allow pedestrians to pass through the site safely.

Consultation has been undertaken with local residents, businesses, the local authority and emergency services to make them aware of the works and the traffic management arrangements that will be in place.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “We’re pleased to see the second phase of footway improvements adjacent to the A82 get underway. The project will help enhance the quality and safety of the footway for pedestrians in Fort Augustus.

“The traffic management arrangements are essential to protect our workforce as well as motorists and pedestrians, our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We thank road users and pedestrians for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
