• Slip road and lane closures 15 June to 3 July 2025

Overnight works to install new safety barriers on the M9 southbound between Junctions 9 and 8 are set to begin on Sunday 15 June.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project over 15 nights from Sunday 15 June until Thursday 3 July. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

For the safety of road users and the workforce, the M9 junction 9 southbound on-slip and lane one on the M9 southbound between Junctions 9 and 8 will be closed between 19:30 and 06:00 each night. The hard shoulder will be closed 24 hours a day.

During slip road closures, a signed diversion route will be in place via the M9 northbound to turn at Junction 10 and return south to Junction 9, adding an estimated 10.3 miles and 12 minutes to affected journeys.

The slip road will remain open to the public during the daytime with a 30mph speed restriction.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These safety barrier upgrades on the M9 southbound between Junctions 9 and 8 will improve safety for motorists.

“It is essential that we close the slip road during the works, however we’ll do this overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
