ROCKSLOPE WORKS ON THE A87 AT UIG

March 2, 2026

  • Works start on Monday 9 March

  • Two-way temporary traffic lights in place until Friday 13 March

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out rockslope works on the A87 at Uig from Monday 9 March.

Works will be carried out between the hours of 8am and 5pm and are expected to be completed by the Friday 13 March.

The works involve treefelling as well as the removal of loose soil and rock from the slope to improve resilience, particularly during storm events.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, two-way temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed restriction will be in place 24 hours a day, reducing traffic to a single lane for the full duration of the works. During certain critical activities, there may be short traffic holds of up to 10 minutes. There will be no access to the adjacent layby for the full duration of the works.

Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of  the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the rockslope works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Michael Baxter, BEAR Scotland’s North West Improvements Scheme Manager said: “These works will remove trees, unstable soil and loose rocks from the slope to reduce the risk of debris reaching the carriageway and improve safety for road users.

“Our teams will carry out these works efficiently, with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”
