UPDATED 4 September 2026: Due to poor weather affecting the wider programme of works, road resurfacing on the A83 at Tarbert will now start on Sunday 13 September. Please see new dates below.

  • Works start on Sunday 13 September

  • Road closure with amnesties in place until Thursday 15 October

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to deliver a programme of road resurfacing at three locations on the A83 north of Stonefield to West Tarbert from Sunday 13 September.

Works will be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 6am each working night and are expected to be completed by the morning of Thursday 15 October. No works will be carried out on Friday or Saturday nights.

To protect the workforce and members of the travelling public, road closures will be in place each working night with hourly amnesties provided at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am and 5am to allow waiting vehicles to be escorted safely through the worksite. Closures will be implemented as follows:

  • A83 Meall Mhor North Lodge and North of Ashens: Sunday 13 September until the morning of Friday 2 October
  • A83 North of Carrick Cemetery: Sunday 4 October until the morning of Thursday 15 October

Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland’s North West Planned Maintenance Manager said: “These road resurfacing works on the A83 will fix existing defects in the road surface, improving the quality and safety of the route for road users.

We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance of the work commencing.”
