ROAD MARKING IMPROVEMENT WORKS ON THE A68

December 2, 2022

WORKS POSTPONED: Due to recent and ongoing winter weather conditions, these works on the A68 have now been delayed and will be rescheduled in early 2023.

  • Overnight closures 12-14 December 2022

Overnight road and lane closures on the A68 between St Boswells and the national border are scheduled for 12-14 December, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to complete road marking and road stud improvement works.

These works were originally scheduled for November, however poor weather prevented the project from being completed.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the travelling public, the following closures and diversions will be in place from 19:30 until 06:00 each night:

  • On the night of Monday 12 December, the A68 will be closed in both directions between St Boswells and Bonjedward, with a signed diversion route in place via the A699 and A698
  • On the night of Tuesday 13 December, the A68 will be closed in both directions between Bonjedward and the junction of the A68 and the A6088, with a signed diversion route in place via the A698 and A6088
  • On the night of Wednesday 14 December, a single lane closure will be in place between the junction of the A68 and A6088 and the national border. Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic lights.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents living within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These road marking and stud improvement works will enhance safety for motorists using the A68.

“Due to adverse weather, we were unable to complete these works as planned during November. We’re grateful to road users and local residents for their patience while we return to complete the job. We encourage them to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys if they do need to travel on these nights.”
