ROAD IMPROVEMENT WORKS AT THREE LOCATIONS ON THE A828

January 16, 2024

Media Update: Works on the A828 at two locations have been delayed by one day.  Please see the revised dates and additional information in red below.

  • Works to take place at three locations 22 January – 21 February

Motorists using the A828 are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with works planned by Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, at three locations this month.

Resurfacing works will take place north of Appin bends, north of Oban Airport and south of the Highland boundary from Monday 22 January to Wednesday 21 February 2024. All work will take place between the hours of 7pm to 6am.

Details of the projects are as follows:

  • South of the Highland boundary (Monday 22 to Thursday 25 January): Resurfacing improvements across 1700m of carriageway will be made.
  • South of Appin (Wednesday 31 January to Monday 19 February): Road surface improvements will be made along 200m of carriageway. No work will take place on Friday and Saturday.
  • North of Oban Airport (Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 February): Resurfacing improvements along 300m of carriageway will be made. Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the day on Tuesday 20 February.

Due to restricted road widths through this section of the A828, the carriageway will be closed to ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the traveling public. The A828 will therefore be closed in both directions each night. During periods of closure, amnesties at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am will allow waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “We have a strong track record of delivering road improvement schemes and keeping the network moving for the benefit of motorists and local communities. These road surface improvements on the A828 will help address defects and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance.

“Traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Regrettably, there will be some delays, but our teams will do all they can to complete the scheme as safely and quickly as possible, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
