BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to reconstruct a masonry retaining wall on the A85 adjacent to Connel Bridge, from Monday 2 November.
The retaining wall, which supports both the A85 trunk road and the adjacent pedestrian footway, was partially damaged by a falling tree. The works will involve the removal of the large tree and the reconstruction of the affected section of retaining wall using recovered stonework.
Whilst on site, the team will also remove some litter and waste materials from areas accessed as part of the works.
Works will be carried out between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday with an expected completion date of Friday 20 November, subject to weather conditions and access constraints.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the works. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction via a dedicated route safely segregated from the work area.
Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Richard Cook, BEAR Scotland’s North West Bridges Manager, said: “This repair project is important to maintain the long-term integrity of the retaining wall supporting the A85 trunk road and adjacent footway at Cnoc Aruan. The works will ensure the continued safe use of this section of the trunk road network for both road users and pedestrians.
“Works have been planned to minimise disruption as far as possible and we thank the local community and road users in advance for their patience while these essential repairs are carried out.
