RESURFACING WORKS PLANNED ON A82 FORT WILLIAM

April 17, 2026

Updated on 24 June 2026: Work on the A82 between Gleamer Garage and North Road Retail Park in Fort William did not finish as planned and requires one more night of work. Please see the new end date below.

  • Three phases of resurfacing works will start from Sunday 10 May

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will undertake a programme of overnight resurfacing works on the A82 in Fort William, beginning on Sunday 10 May.

The works are required to address defects within the existing carriageway and will help ensure the long-term durability, resilience, and safety of this key section of the trunk road network.

The resurfacing will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am. To protect both the workforce and road users, a convoy traffic management system will be in operation, with vehicles escorted safely through the works at approximately 10mph.

To minimise disruption, no work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights. Temporary traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, and the road will be fully reopened during the day:

  • Phase 1: A82 Belford Hospital to Nevis Roundabout – Sunday 10 May to the morning of Tuesday 2 June – completed
  • Phase 2: Gleamer Garage to North Road Retail Park – Thursday 11 June to the morning of Thursday 25 June

Steve Taylor, BEAR Scotland’s North West Design Manager, said, “These essential resurfacing works will provide a significant upgrade to the existing road surface and allow for the installation of new road markings, improving both the quality and safety of the A82 through Fort William.

“We would like to thank road users, residents and local businesses for their patience while these important improvements are carried out.”

Road users are advised to plan their journeys and allow additional time when travelling during the works. Real-time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland at www.traffic.gov.scot, on X @trafficscotland, or on the mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
