Update 27.08.26: Due to a change in programme, no works will take place on the A85 St Conan’s Kirk (Lochawe) on Sunday 30 August. Subsequently, the works taking place at East of Arrivain will now begin two days later than scheduled, commencing on Thursday 3 September with all works due to be completed by Thursday 10 September.
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out two resurfacing schemes on the A85 at St Conan Kirk, Lochawe, and east of Arrivain, west of Tyndrum, to improve the condition and safety of the carriageway for road users.
The first phase of works will take place at St Conan Kirk from Wednesday 26 August. Works will be carried out overnight between 7pm and 6am, with all works expected to be completed by the morning of Tuesday 1 September. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday evenings.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and road users, the A85 will be closed overnight during working hours. Timed amnesties will be provided at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am, allowing waiting vehicles to be escorted safely through the works.
The second phase will take place east of Arrivain from Wednesday 2 September. Works will be undertaken between 7am and 7pm each day and are expected to be completed by the evening of Wednesday 9 September. No works will take place on Saturday or Sunday daytimes.
A 10mph convoy system with two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place during working hours at Arrivain. Outside working hours, traffic management will be removed, however, a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place while traffic travels over a temporary road surface.
Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout both phases of the works. Scheduled bus services will also be accommodated during the overnight road closures at St Conan Kirk.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the works.
Steve Taylor, BEAR Scotland’s North West Design Manager, said: “The upcoming schemes on the A85 at St Conan Kirk and east of Arrivain will address existing defects in the road surface and refresh the road markings, improving the quality and safety of the route for road users.
“Our teams will complete these works as quickly as possible, with safety remaining our top priority. We thank the local community and road users in advance while these essential improvements are carried out.”
The works are weather dependent and may be postponed or rescheduled in the event of adverse conditions.
