BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out essential resurfacing works on the westbound carriageway of the M8 between Junction 4A-5, at Whitburn, between 7 – 13 January 2026 for 5 nights.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and road users it is necessary to close the M8 from Junction 4A Westbound on these dates, between the hours of 20:30 and 06:00, excluding Saturday and Sunday.
During this closure, a signed diversion route will be in place: Westbound M8 traffic will be diverted off at Junction 4A, to continue via the B7066 towards Harthill and the B7057, before rejoining the M8 westbound at Junction 5 towards Glasgow/A8.
The diversion will add 0.5 miles and 5 minutes on to journey times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said “The works of the M8 from Junction 4A Westbound will improve the roads surface for motorists. For the safety of both road users and our workforce, it is essential to that this route is closed with a diversion in place throughout the works.
“We’ve scheduled this at night to minimise disruption as far possible. If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversions.”
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times, and all traffic management will be removed out with working hours.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
