RESURFACING THE SOUTHBOUND M9 PRIOR TO AVON BRIDGE

February 8, 2022

  • Three overnight carriageway closures begin Tuesday 15 February 2022

A section of the southbound M9 is to benefit from a £200,000 Transport Scotland investment in resurfacing improvements, with operating company BEAR Scotland planning to renew approximately 0.7 kilometres of the trunk road.

For the safety of workers and road users, the southbound carriageway of the M9 between Junctions 5 and 3 will be closed from 19:30 until 06:00 on the nights of Tuesday 15, Thursday 17 February and Friday 18 February.

During these closures, a diversion route for southbound traffic will be signposted from M9 Junction 5 to M9 Junction 3 via the A905, A904, A993 and A803, adding an estimated 8 minutes and 1.4 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Due to the depth of construction, one lane of the southbound M9 will be closed during the day on Wednesday 16 February to allow adequate cooling time for materials, however the hard shoulder will be utilised to ensure two lanes remain open to traffic.

Consultations have taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the M9.

“Carriageway closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
