RESURFACING THE M876 JUNCTION 2 WESTBOUND ON-SLIP

July 15, 2025

  • Five overnight carriageway closures from 7 August 2025

The westbound on-slip at M876 Junction 2 will be closed for resurfacing between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of 7, 8, 11, 12 and 13 August.

To facilitate the works, one lane adjacent to the slip road will also be closed.

The project will be carried out by Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, and will involve renewing 1.1 kilometres of road surface to improve safety and provide smoother journeys for motorists.

A signed diversion route will be in place for westbound traffic wishing to join the M876 westbound at Junction 2. Traffic will be diverted eastbound via the A88 Bellsdyke Road to South Bellsdyke Roundabout, then take the first exit onto the A905 towards Bowtrees Interchange. From there, traffic will take the first exit onto the westbound M876 and merge back onto the motorway, following signs for Glasgow. This diversion will add approximately 13 minutes and 9.1 miles to affected journeys

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager, said “Closing the slip road and one lane of the main carriageway is essential to ensure the safety of both road users and our workforce during these resurfacing works.

“We’ve planned the works overnight to minimise disruption as much as possible, however we understand this may still cause inconvenience for some road users. We thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.

“If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion.”

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
