RESURFACING THE M80 SOUTHBOUND NEAR WELLSFIELD

May 6, 2021

  • Overnight carriageway closures Friday 14 May and Tuesday 18 May 2021

Motorists using the M80 southbound are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning to renew over 1.2 kilometres of the trunk road near Wellsfield.

For the safety of workers and road users during these works, the southbound carriageway of the M80 will be closed between Junction 9 and Junction 8 from 19:30 until 06:00 on the nights of Friday 14 May and Tuesday 18 May.

A diversion route for southbound traffic will be signposted via the M9 and M876, adding an estimated 10 minutes and 10 miles to affected journeys. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve safety and ride quality for motorists on this section of the M80.

“Road closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.”
