Three overnight closures of the M80 southbound and M876 westbound are planned, to allow the M80 to be resurfaced south of Bankhead Interchange, the junction between the two motorways.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works between 21:00 and 06:00 on the nights of 15, 16 and 17 December.
On the night of Monday 15 December, the M876 westbound carriageway will be closed from Junction 1, near Larbert, and the M80 southbound carriageway will be closed from Junction 9, Pirnhall, to Junction 7, Haggs.
On the nights of 16 and 17 December, the M876 westbound will again be closed from Junction 1, however the M80 southbound will remain open with only a lane closure between Junctions 9 and 7.
During these closures, a signed diversion route will be in place from M80 Junction 9, via the M9 southbound to Junction 7, then the M876 eastbound to turn at Junction 3, Bowtrees, and return westbound to M876 Junction 1. From M876 Junction 1, traffic will be diverted via the A883 to the Three Bridges Roundabout and then the A803 to join the M80 southbound at Junction 7, Haggs.
This diversion will add approximately 12.2 miles and 19 minutes to affected journeys.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It is essential for safety that we close this section of carriageway while resurfacing works take place.
“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however we appreciate that this will cause delays for some people and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.”
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
