BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, is to carry out essential resurfacing works on the westbound carriageway of the M8 from Junction 2 to junction 3.
Works are programmed to take place on the following times and dates:
No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday nights.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and road users, it will be necessary to close the M8 westbound carriageway between Junctions 2 and 3 during these works. The M8 Junction 2 westbound on-slip from the M9 will also be closed at Newbridge.
A signed diversion route will be in place from M8 Junction 2 to M8 Junction 3, via the M9 to Newbridge Roundabout, the A89 to Dechmont Roundabout, and the A899 Livingston Road to Livingston East Roundabout, taking the second exit to re-join the M8 westbound.
Traffic wishing to travel west on the M8 from the M9 southbound and the A8 westbound should also follow this diversion, which will add approximately 10 minutes and 1.6 miles to journey times.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times, and all traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These resurfacing improvements will result in smoother and safer journeys for motorists using M8 westbound.
“Carriageway closures are essential for safety during the works, however we’ll do this overnight to minimise the impact.
“If you need to travel on the M8 westbound during these works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.”
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
