RESURFACING THE M8 WESTBOUND BETWEEN HERMISTON AND RATHO

March 13, 2024

  • Five overnight carriageway closures commence 25 March 2024

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to resurface 1.9 kilometres of the M8 westbound carriageway between Junction 1 Hermiston Gait and Ratho.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, the westbound M8 between Junction 1 and Junction 2 will be closed from 20:30 until 06:00 on the nights of 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 March.

A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass, the A8 (Glasgow Road) and the M9 southbound to join the M8 westbound at Junction 2. This diversion will add approximately 4 minutes and 1.1 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve the road quality and safety for motorists using this section of the M8.

“Carriageway closures are essential for safety, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
