RESURFACING THE M8 JUNCTION 2 WESTBOUND ONSLIP

February 17, 2022

These works have been extended by one night due to recent adverse weather. The same closure and diversion will be in place on the night of Thursday 24 February.

  • Two overnight slip road closures begin Tuesday 22 February 2022

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to resurface 0.8 kilometres of the westbound slip road onto the M8 at Junction 2.

The work will take place on the nights of Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 February.

For the safety of workers and road users, the M8 Junction 2 westbound on-slip will be closed between 20:30 and 06:00 on these nights.

A signed diversion route will be in place directing traffic onto the M8 Junction 2 eastbound on-slip travelling towards M8 Junction 1 Hermiston Gait, where they will turn back and travel westbound towards M8 Junction 2. This diversion route will add approximately eight minutes and 8.1 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve the ride quality and safety for motorists on this section of the M8.

“The slip road closure is essential for safety, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption. We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible and thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
