RESURFACING THE EASTBOUND M8 1.5 MILES PRIOR TO JUNCTION 3

August 16, 2022

  • Six overnight carriageway closures begin Tuesday 30 August 2022

A section of the eastbound M8 1.5 miles prior to Junction 3 is set to benefit from a £352,000 Transport Scotland Investment in resurfacing improvements, with BEAR Scotland planning to renew approximately 1.1 kilometres of the trunk road.

For the safety of workers and road users, the eastbound carriageway of the M8 will be closed between Junction 3A and Junction 3 from 20:30 until 06:00 for six nights beginning on Tuesday 30 August (excluding the weekend).

During these closures, a signed diversion route will be in place for eastbound traffic from M8 Junction 3A to M8 Junction 3, via the A779, A89 and A899. This diversion route will add an estimated 7 minutes and 5.5 miles to affected journeys. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Due to the depth of construction, lane restrictions will remain in place during the day to allow adequate material cooling time, however the hard shoulder will be used to ensure two lanes are always in operation.

Consultations have taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the M8.

“Carriageway closures are essential for safety, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
