Overnight works to renew the road surface on the A90 westbound at Dalmeny are set to begin on 31 July.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project between 20:30 and 04:00 on the nights of Thursday 31 July, Friday 1 August and Monday 4 to Wednesday 6 August. No works will take place on Saturday or Sunday nights.
For the safety of workers and road users, the westbound carriageway of the A90 will be closed on these nights from Queensferry Road at Barnton Junction to Dalmeny, with local access only up to Burnshot Bridge. Eastbound traffic towards Edinburgh city centre will not be affected.
Two clearly signed diversion routes will be in place from Barnton Junction to M90 Junction 1A Queensferry: one for motorway traffic and another for non-motorway traffic. Both routes will initially follow the A902 Maybury Road and then the A8 Glasgow Road to Newbridge Junction. After Newbridge Roundabout, non-motorway traffic will be diverted via the A89 and B800, while motorway traffic will continue via the M9 and M90.
The diversion for motorway traffic will add approximately 3.3 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys, while the diversion for non-motorway traffic will add 6.1 miles and 10 minutes.
Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A90 Dalmeny will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.
“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during these works, however we’ve scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“If you need to use this route, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
