RESURFACING THE A9 NORTH OF HILLICLAY

July 27, 2023

  • Works begin Monday 7 August for nine days
  • Lane closure with 10mph convoy 7am-7pm

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s trunk road operating company, will be resurfacing the A9 south of Thurso (north of Hilliclay) from Monday 7 August.

The £384,000 investment will see a 1640m stretch of road resurfaced, replacing the worn out carriageway and providing a smoother and safer experience for drivers.

The project is scheduled to take place between Monday 7 and Thursday 17 August, with no work on Saturday and Sunday. A lane closure with a 10mph convoy will be in place for safety from 7am to 7pm each working day, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place outside these times as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “We’re pleased to be able to carry out these improvements on the A9 on behalf of Transport Scotland and we’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience while we carry out the work.

“We have to use the lane closure and temporary speed limits to keep workers and drivers safe, but we will keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work as quickly as we can. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.gov.scot or Twitter at @trafficscotland.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
