RESURFACING THE A702 SOUTH OF MAURICEWOOD ROUNDABOUT

November 4, 2026

  • Overnight works commence 17 November 2026

Overnight works to renew the road surface on the A702 south of Mauricewood Roundabout are set to take place over eight weekdays nights from Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 November and Monday 23 to Thursday 26 November.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project between 19:30 and 06:30 each night.

For the safety of workers and road users, the A702 will be closed during the works between the A766 Carlops Road and Bush Loan Road, with access permitted for emergency vehicles and local traffic only.

A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted via the A766 Carlops Road, A701 John Street, Gowkley Moss Roundabout and Bush Loan Road. This diversion will add an estimated 1.8 miles and 10 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A702 will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It’s essential for safety that we close the road while resurfacing takes place, however we’ll do this at night to minimise any disruption.

“Our advice if you need to use this route during the works is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
