RESURFACING THE A702 NORTH OF ABINGTON

June 13, 2025

  • Overnight works commence Thursday 3 July 2025

Overnight works to renew the road surface on the A702 north of Abington are scheduled on the nights of 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 July.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project.

The A702 will be closed between Abington Interchange and Maidencoates Roundabout between 19:30 and 06:30 each night during the works. Access to Abington services will be maintained.

A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted via the B7078, A70 and A721, adding an estimated 12.7 miles and 19 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A702 North of Abington will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during the works, however we’ve scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
