The A702 trunk road will be closed in Biggar town centre between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of Thursday 26 and Friday 27 March, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to resurface the carriageway.
The A702 will be closed at the junction with Park Place and Station Road, with a diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic signposted between Maidencoates Roundabout and Melbourne Crossroads, via the A73, Hyndford Road, Ayr Road, Lanark Road, the A70 and the A721. This diversion will add an estimated 11.7 miles and 18 minutes to affected journeys.
Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “This resurfacing is being done as part of the ongoing civil engineering works to install traffic signals for a new pedestrian crossing in Biggar town centre.
“It is essential that we close the carriageway during these works, however we’ll do this during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“We thank road users and local residents in advance for their patience and understanding.”
