The A7 south of Selkirk will be closed for resurfacing works between 19:30 and 06:00 on eleven weekday nights from Tuesday 3 to Tuesday 17 March.
A signed diversion route will be in place between Hawick and Selkirk via the A698, A68 and A699, adding an additional 13 miles and 21 minutes to affected journeys.
No works will take place on Saturday or Sunday nights.
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
The works will be managed by Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These works will see almost 1,200 metres of carriageway renewed approximately four kilometres south of Selkirk.
“It’s essential for the safety of road users and the workforce that we close the road while resurfacing takes place, however we’ll do this at night to minimise the impact.
“If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow plenty of extra time for the diversion.
“We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience and understanding while we make these improvements.”
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
