Updated 1 May 2026: Due to operational availability, resurfacing works on the A87 South of Skye Bridge and at Braes Junction have been rescheduled for September 2026. Exact dates will be shared nearer the time. The remainder of the A87 Isle of Skye project will resume on Monday 11 May.
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out overnight resurfacing works on the A87 at eight locations from Tuesday 14 April.
The resurfacing project is currently expected to start on Tuesday 14 April until the morning of Saturday 16 May. Works will be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 5am each night, with no work taking place Saturday or Sunday nights.
Road closures will be in place at all locations with amnesties offered at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12pm, 2am and 4am to allow waiting vehicles to be escorted safely through the site. The following arrangements will apply:
North end closed during works with access maintained via A850 junction end.
Access maintained locally to industrial estate during works.
Convoy in operation under traffic lights.
B883 junction closed during works, access maintained via South junction.
North junction closed during works with access maintained via South junction near ferry terminal.
Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, however a reduced speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.
Emergency service vehicles will be allowed to pass through the site throughout the working period.
Public buses will be allowed through upon confirmation of timetable.
Steve Taylor, BEAR Scotland’s North West Planned Maintenance Manager, said “The resurfacing improvements will involve resurfacing the road to make it more durable and resilient against inclement weather, as well as providing a safer surface for road users. The works are required to fix existing defects and improve road markings.
“Our teams will carry out these works consecutively to minimise disruption, with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community for their patience while the works are completed.”
