REPAIR WORKS ON M876 SET TO START 4 JULY

June 30, 2022

Four week programme sees two weeks of day time works and two weeks of over night works

Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, is to carry out repair works on the gabion baskets (structural rock-filled metal cages) located between Junction 1 and 2 on the M876 from Monday 4 July until Sunday 29 July 2022.

Repairs to the cages – which protect the structural stability of the embankments and prevent erosion – will take place over four weeks from Monday 4 July until Sunday 29 July 2022.

The repairs will ensure that only minor improvements will have to be made in the future, increasing road safety on the M876 at this location.

At times during the repair programme this stretch of the M876 will be restricted to a single lane, with Lane 1 and hard shoulder closures.

Works will take place during the day on weekdays only (09:30-15:30) for the first two weeks of works until Friday 15 July. From Monday, 18 July, works will take place at night (20:00 – 06:00), including weekends.  Outside of these times, the hard shoulders will remain closed but lane 1 will be reopened to traffic.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “These repair works are required to safeguard the integrity of the gabion baskets and the motorway.

“It is essential for the safety of the workforce and road users that we use lane closures while the works are being carried out.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the works in advance.
