PUBLIC EXHIBITION ON SELKIRK TOWN CENTRE PROPOSALS FOR ENHANCING PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

June 12, 2026

A public exhibition is being hosted by roads authorities in Selkirk to showcase the proposed improvement plans to enhance the safety for pedestrian users of the A7 corridor through the Borders town.

On Thursday 25 June Transport Scotland, its trunk road operating company in South East Scotland, BEAR Scotland, and Scottish Borders Council will host the public event in Victoria Halls to show the community the preferred improvement options.

Tommy Deans, Network Manager for the South East Unit, explains: “We have listened to the experiences of those who frequent Selkirk to shop, visit, go to school and work. A lot of work has been done to assess the feasibility as well as the pros and cons of various improvements.

“As a result of that we are now ready to reveal the proposals which have been developed in collaboration with Scottish Borders Council so that developments on the A7 trunk road, which we are responsible for, align with and complement the plans for the roads that come under the local authority’s remit.

“Enhancing the safety of those walking, cycling, using pushchairs or wheelchairs is the primary objective. With any changes, there will be other impacts, but it is important to keep that core aim in mind.”
