BEAR Scotland will continue to deliver improvements across the trunk road network in South East Scotland during the first quarter of 2026.
A busy programme of resurfacing is scheduled, with projects set to be delivered on the M8, M9, M90, M8, A7, A702, A68 and A720. Notable projects include the A7 East and West of Boonraw Junction, A7 Hare Voss, M90 Junction 1B to 1C northbound, and the M8 at Forrestdyke and Junction 3 eastbound off-slip. The Tweedbank roundabout on the A6091 and two laybys on the A985 are also set to be resurfaced.
Phase Three of the major project to refurbish the bridge carrying the B792 over the M8 between Bathgate and Blackburn has now commenced. Works to repair the bridge carrying the M9 motorway over the Forth & Clyde Canal next to the Kelpies will continue into February, as will works to strengthen the bridge carrying the M8 over the A801 at Junction 4. Concrete repairs on the piers of Masterton Bridge carrying the M90 at Junction 2 will continue until the summer.
Drainage improvement works will be carried out on the M8 between Junctions 2 and 3, at Newhouses Road, and on the M876 from Junction 2 to the M80.
A wind management scheme will be delivered on the A1 between Torness and Lamberton, with four sites identified for the installation of hardstandings, new signage and windsocks.
Twenty layby upgrades will be carried out at various locations on the A1, and eight rock-slope sites across the network will receive works to remove vegetation. Slope repair works on the A68 at Jedwater will see almost 300 tonnes of rock being used for slope repairs, in addition to kerbing and drainage activities in this location.
Works to upgrade roadside safety barriers will take place on the A702 near Hillend.
Full details of traffic management for these schemes will be published in the News section of the BEAR Scotland website in advance of works commencing.
