Between July and September 2025 will see improvements continuing to be delivered across the trunk road network in South East Scotland.
Full details of traffic management for these schemes will be published in the News section of the BEAR Scotland website in advance of works commencing:
- On the M8, works to refurbish the bridge carrying the B792 local road over the motorway at Blackburn will continue until September. Resurfacing schemes are also planned in September on the M8 slip roads at Junctions 3, 4 and 4A and on the westbound M8 between Junctions 2 and 3. Drainage investigation works and safety barrier upgrades will also take place between Junctions 2 and 3, and boundary fencing works will take place in September between Junctions 5 and 6.
- On the M9, refurbishment works are set to continue until August on Knockhill Bridge between Junctions 10 and 11. A major programme of works to refurbish the deck of the bridge carrying the M9 motorway over Bonsyde Road near Linlithgow will continue until September, and pier protection works are planned on overbridges between M9 Junctions 2 and 4 in September. Safety barrier works are ongoing between Junctions 9 and 8, drainage investigation works will take place between Junctions 3 and 4 in August and September, and fencing works between Junctions 9 and 10 will commence in September for six weeks.
- The M876 will see resurfacing improvements at the Junction 2 westbound on-slip in August.
- On the A1 resurfacing schemes are planned near East Linton in July, and from Wallyford to the River Esk in August (this scheme will also include bridge works). In September the road surface will be renewed on the southbound carriageway from Old Craighall to the River Esk, on the northbound carriageway north of Spott Roundabout and at Myreside Junction. Drainage investigation are taking place from Wallyford to Abbotsview on the A1, and bridge works will take place at Tower Farm near Cockburnspath in late July and early August.
- On the A7, resurfacing schemes are planned 12 miles south of Hawick, north of Dryden Farm in August, and south of Canonbie in September. Signs and safety barriers will be upgraded at Kingsknowe Roundabout later in the quarter.
- A scheme to upgrade safety barriers on the A68 south of Lauder will also take place.
- Work to renew the road surface on the westbound A90 at Dalmeny is also planned.
- Resurfacing schemes will take place on the A702 in July north of Abington and south of Hillend.
- The A720 Edinburgh City Bypass westbound carriageway is being resurfaced from Sherrifhall to Gilmerton, as well as resurfacing and joint replacement works on the bridge carrying the bypass over the Water of Leith south of Baberton. Resurfacing is also planned at the A720 Lothianburn westbound on-slip in September.
- Resurfacing schemes at various locations on the A985 are planned in August.
