The remainder of 2025 will see improvements continuing to be delivered across the trunk road network in South East Scotland.
Full details of traffic management for these schemes will be published in the News section of the BEAR Scotland website in advance of works commencing.
A busy programme of resurfacing is scheduled:
Works to clean the footbridge over the M8 at Harthill Services will continue through the first week in November.
Refurbishment works at Townfoot Bridge in Jedburgh and Galadean Bridge north of Earlston will continue until December. Works on the B792 bridge over the M8 near Blackburn, and on Knockhill Bridge carrying the M9 between Junctions 10 and 11, are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Concrete repairs on the piers of Masterton Bridge carrying the M90 at Junction 2 will begin in late November, however traffic on the motorway will not be affected at this stage of the project.
Overnight routine maintenance will be carried out on the Queensferry Crossing’s stay cables in October and November.
Drainage improvement works will be carried out between Junctions 3 and 4 on the M9, on the A1 southbound from Wallyford to Abbotsview, on the M8 near Newhouses Road between Junctions 2 and 3, and from M876 Junction 2 to the M80.
In November, the A68 will have its road markings and studs upgraded between Earlston and Birkenside Junction.
Fencing replacement schemes are planned on the M9 near Chartershall and on the M8 between Junctions 5 and 6.
Works to replace central reserve safety barriers will take place at two locations on the M8 between Junctions 2 and 3.
Layby improvements at twenty locations on the A1 will be carried out in November and December.
Emergency bank repair works on the A7 at Ewes Water, near Langholm, will be completed in October.
