Planned works in the South East Q2 2025

April 29, 2025

There are 13 structural maintenance resurfacing schemes planned on South East trunk roads during the second quarter of 2025, on the M8, M9, M80, M90, M876, A1 and A7. These will all be carried out under overnight road and carriageway closures, except for a major scheme on the M8 eastbound at Polkemmet, which will require four days of contraflow from 10-13 May.

A number of drainage improvement schemes will be carried out across the network, including works on the M9 designed to improve the water quality in Linlithgow Loch. None of these will require road closures, except for works on the A68 north of Pathhead over three weeks in June.

Planned safety improvements include hazard removal and upgrades to vehicle restraint systems on the M9, signage improvements on the A702 north of Langholm, and new road markings to improve motorcycle safety at Huntsford Bends near the English border on the A68.

Waterproofing and parapet replacement on Craigforth Bridge over the M9 at Junction 10 will continue until June, with temporary traffic lights and occasional full closures on the A84.

Bearing replacement works on the M9 Knockhill Bridge near Bridge of Allan will get under way in April, involving occasional overnight closures of the M9 and the local road below the structure.

Steelwork repairs, concrete repairs and repainting on the B792 bridge over the M8 between Bathgate and Blackburn will commence in May, with various phases of contraflow on the M8 and occasional full overnight closures.

On the Forth Road Bridge, inspection and testing of main cables will continue until November, and works to replace the lateral thrust bearings will continue until August. These projects are not expected to cause any significant disruption, however some phases of lane and carriageway closures on the A9000 will be required.
