PLANNED CLOSURES ON A823(M) AND M90

September 16, 2025

  • Works commence 29 September 2025

  • Full closure of A823(M) on-slip to M90 at Junction 2

  • Full closure of M90 off-slip at Junction 1C

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out investigation works on the A823(M) and M90 over one night on Monday 29 September between 20:00 and 06:00.
Works will require a full closure of the A823(M) on-slip to the M90 southbound carriageway, a full closure of the M90 off-slip at junction 1C southbound and a hard shoulder closure of the M90 northbound carriageway.
For the A823 (M) on-slip closure a diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted from A823(M) onto M90 northbound and directed to leave the M90 at junction 3 to rejoin the M90 southbound, adding an estimated 6 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.
For the M90 off-slip closure at junction 1C a diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted from junction 1C directing traffic to continue to junction 1B where they will leave and rejoin the M90 northbound to junction 1C, adding an estimated 2.5 miles and 4 minutes to affected journeys.
Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This programme of investigation is key to ensuring the structural integrity of this bridge and extend its service life for many years to come.
“The works have been planned to minimise disruption to road users as far as possible by carrying these works at nighthowever some delays are to be expected.”
“Some full closures of the road are unavoidable, in the interests of the safety of motorists and our workforce.  These will be limited to overnight hours to minimise any disruption.”
“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these essential works and would ask them to fully comply with temporary speed limits to ensure our workers can go home safely to their families each day.”
Live traffic information is available from the Traffic Scotland website www.traffic.gov.scot and on X at @trafficscotland.
All works are dependent on the weather and the existing condition of the structure, which can’t be fully understood until works commence and intrusive investigations are carried out. As such, the programme of works is subject to postponement, cancellation or rearrangement of dates in the event of adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
