PHASE 2 OF SAFETY BARRIER WORKS ON M9 BRIDGES, JUNCTIONS 6 & 7 TO END

November 22, 2022

  • Pier protection upgrade for three bridges

  • Northbound and Southbound Motorway closure Thursday 24 November 2022

  • Hard Shoulder and Lane 1 closures from Sunday 27 November 2022

Overnight carriageway closures will be in place on the M9 on the night of Thursday 24 November, ending phase 2 of works carried out by BEAR Scotland, which upgraded the safety barriers protecting bridge piers in the central reserve.

On the night of Thursday 24 November, the M9 northbound will be closed between Junctions 6 and 7 from 19:30 until 06:00. A diversion route will be signposted from Junction 5 Cadgers Brae to Junction 7 Kinnaird House via the A9, B902 and A88, A905 and joining back at Junction 7 northbound, adding approximately 10 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys.

On the night of Sunday 27 November, the hard shoulders between Junctions 6 and 7 will need to be closed at all times, and lane one of each main carriageway will be closed between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00 each night.

The speed limit through the works will be reduced to 40mph at all times to ensure the safety of the workforce. These overnight lane closures will continue until the end of December 2022. Two lanes in each direction will remain open to traffic during daytime. The roads on top of the bridges will not be affected.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “These upgrades will provide improved protection for the piers supporting three bridges over the M9.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience. We ask them to plan ahead and allow some extra time for their journey if they need to travel on the M9 during these works.”

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders including local authorities and Police Scotland in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
