PHASE 2 OF ESSENTIAL WORKS ON A9 RIVER BRAAN BRIDGE BEGIN 25 AUGUST FOR TWO WEEKS

August 22, 2025

  • Works to take place on weeknights only
  • Temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed restriction in place between 20:00 and 07:00 each night

From Monday 25 August, BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out essential maintenance works on the A9 at the River Braan Bridge, immediately north of Dunkeld.

The works will take place for two weeks between 20:00 and 07:00 on weeknights only (Monday-Friday). For the safety of road workers and users, temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed restriction will be in place.

Convoy traffic management with a 10mph speed restriction will be frequently implemented, when required, to provide extra protection to the work force. Access from the A9 onto the A822 and A923 will remain open.

The local footpath network, including the bridge underpass will also remain open throughout. Pedestrians may be asked by the contractor to wait briefly on entering and be escorted under the bridge, to ensure safety.

The works, which will help to prevent deterioration through concrete repairs and expansion joint replacement, are scheduled for completion by 6 September 2025.

Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “The proposed repairs will allow the bridge to remain safe and reliable for road users travelling along this stretch of the A9.

“Our teams will carry out these works in a controlled manner, with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”

Consultation with all relevant stakeholders has been conducted in advance of the improvements and access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works
