PARAPET REPLACEMENT WORKS ON A68 220 EARLSTON BRIDGE FOR TWO WEEKS

September 2, 2022

  • Temporary traffic lights and overnight closures 12 – 23 September 2022

Replacement parapet works are set to take place at the A68 220 Earlston bridge for two weeks, from Monday 12 September until Friday 23 September 2022.

The parapets, which are a low protective barrier either side of the cycleway on the bridge, are used to protect cyclists. The replacement works will ensure the standard parapet height required for the cycleway is maintained across the bridge, as well as providing better aesthetics and increasing road safety on the A68 at this location.

During the parapet replacement programme, this stretch of the A68 will be restricted to a single lane with temporary traffic lights.

Delivery of materials to site will take place on Monday 12th September (00:00-06:00) and on Sunday 18th September (21:30 – 06:00).

Works will take place during the day (08:00-18:00) from Monday 12th September to Friday 23rd September, including weekends, with the temporary traffic management remaining in place out with this time period.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “These parapet replacement works are required to maintain the integrity of the bridge and to safeguard the cyclists using the structure.

It is essential for the safety of the workforce and road users that we use lane closures while the works are being carried out.

We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the works in advance.
